The Old Island Stamp
Company

Summer 2007
 | STAMP DRAW WINNER: I am pleased to announce our latest stamp draw
winner is Diane Ruggles from Ladner,
British Columbia. Congratulations to Diane! The new stamp draw is ready to go. The
new prize is "Christmas in July" (Not original, but
descriptive!); three new Emily Hull Christmas stamps. To enter the Draw, click on [Home] above, and then
on Stamp Draw on the Home page. Check it out and Good Luck!
'THE FINE PRINT': Please note, now
that it is three months between draws, make sure you only enter once
during that time. I cannot pick someone who has entered
twice or three times...it is not fair to everyone else. Also we
still have a lot of people putting their e-mail address as their
first name, and I disqualify those too.

 | AROUND
THE STUDIO: We have very BIG news for this
newsletter: We have an agreement to sell the business in the New
Year. The new owner will take over next January. She
hopes to do all the Christmas Shows with us. So, we will have an
opportunity to personally introduce her to many of you. I am not
going to identify the new owner just yet, because she is currently
employed, and we do not want to effect of current situation. I
will, however introduce her in the next newsletter, and perhaps we will do
our first Old Island Newsletter interview. I will ask her some
of the questions people have been asking me! Some things I
can tell you about the sale. The company will be moving off
the Island to the Lower Mainland in the New Year. So, we will
not have the Studio next year. That is why we have the
big sale going on in the Studio that I mentioned in the last newsletter. We
need to clear all the items out that we do not sell at the Shows
(See Below). 'Stay tuned'
for more details on the changes at Old Island.
So,
what will you do? I have been hearing that question a lot
lately. Here is one thing that will be occupying
some of my time. My new Cabernet-Fouch grape vines are growing
like 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. My little vineyard has the
potential to produce 100 bottles of wine a year. Talk about a
motivator, and look at those vines!!
We have some other great news for Lower Mainland / Fraser
Valley stampers: We are going to take part this year in the West
Coast Women's Show at TradeX in Abbotsford on October 19th,
20th & 21st. We will be in the
"Home for the Holidays" section (Booth 267). This
looks like a really interesting show; unlike anything we have ever
done before. It will be more commercial with big corporate
sponsors like Sears, Terrasan Gas, and Save-on foods to name a
few. There will be on-going shows on a number of different
stages throughout the show. People like the Designer Guys,
Steve and Chris, and Celebrity chiefs Ken Kostick and Mary Jo
Eustance will be doing their thing on stage. You can get a $1
off admission from the show website, www.westcoastwomen.net
or a $2 off coupon at Save-on Food stores. We will have our
full booth there, so if you just cannot wait until Circle Craft,
come on out to the Valley and get the jump on your stamping friends!
Studio sale: As I mentioned in my last letter, we are not going to be on
the organized studio tour on the Island this year. However,
the studio is open, and we are closing out all our stamping
accessories (except ink, powder and paper). So we have marked
all the other accessories down to our wholesale cost price or
less. We are clearing out all our dry embossing templates, light boxes,
paper punches, Tombow pens, colour rivets, riveting tools, glitters,
glues, glue tab dispensers, brushes, Peral-X powders, stamp scrubbers, fancy
scissors, and more. It is a regular 'red light special' in the
middle of the woods! Also, for braving our pot-holed gravel
road to get here, we have our regular sized one ounce "fine
detailed" Gold, Silver, Copper and Clear embossing powders on sale for
$2, Plum P

 | 2007 CHRISTMAS SHOW UPDATE: We have now
signed contracts for Circle Craft, Art Market, One-of-a-Kind
and as mentioned above the West Coast Women's Show. See the
recently up-dated "Where
to Find Us" page for show dates and websites.
|
 | THE WEBSITE: I
have added five more assorted new Emily Hull stamps to the Latest
Images page. Also, as promised, our second
Christmas text sheet is ready to go.
I have decided to change my pricing for US orders. I have
been maintaining a separate price list in US dollars for years.
I keep having to up-dated it, because the trading between the two currencies
has been so volatile. The US dollar and the Canadian
dollar seem to be approaching pare; less than four cents
separating them as I write. So, I am going to begin doing
all quotes in Canadian dollars. When I send the quote I will
give an indication as to how much of a discount on the currancy
exchange people can expect when the Credit card company converts
the order to US dollars. At present it would be about 3 1/2
- 4%.
The feedback from the Drawing
Board was very interesting. The image was
Ramona's grouping of three flowers. Many people thought they
would like the flowers separately. As a stamp maker it was
the grouping that appealed to me. I am going to duck this
decision and pass it on to the new owner to decide! The new image on the Drawing
Board is an image of foxgloves by Bert Small.
This is another image I have had for some time. I have been
reluctant to develop it, because I do not know how popular this
flower is. They are beautiful here on the Island, and I have
been asked for them often. Do you have foxglove where you
live? Would you be interested in this image?
Have a wonderful summer! - Steve Mueller |
