The Old Island Stamp
Company

Autumn 2007
 | STAMP DRAW WINNER: I am pleased to announce our latest stamp draw
winner is Andrea Weckworth from
Ottawa. Congratulations to Andrea! For our
non-Canadian stampers, Ottawa is our nation's capital and is
located in Ontario (It could help in a Trivia board game someday!) The new stamp draw is ready to go. The
new prize is three new Christmas text stamps we have just
released. To enter the Draw, click on [Home] above, and then
on Stamp Draw on the Home page. Check it out and Good Luck!
'THE FINE PRINT': Please note, now
that it is three months between draws, make sure you only enter once
during that time. I cannot pick someone who has entered
twice or three times...it is not fair to everyone else. Also we
still have a lot of people putting their e-mail address as their
first name, and I disqualify those too.

 | AROUND
THE STUDIO:
As promised, I want to announce that the winner :)
.......that is, the new owner of the Old Island Stamp Company will be
Dawne Colly (in January!!!). Instead of my writing about her, I put some of
the questions to her that people have been asking me. Such as:
Old Island: Who is the new owner?
Dawne: " My name
is Dawne Colly. I live in Lions Bay with my family, Brad,
Molly our goldie, and three cats. I've worked for the same
company for 30 years, and was ready for a change when this
opportunity presented itself.
Old Island: Is the new owner a stamper?
Dawne: Yes, I am a stamper and have been a long time customer
of The Old Island Stamp Company. In the last year I've also
started scrapbooking, and see where stamping can be a big part of
that craft too.
Old Island: Are you going to make many changes?
Dawne: I don't envision a lot of changes in the near future,
but I do see one area where we could make it easier for online
shoppers, and that would be to implement an online Shopping
cart. I can see where this could save time for both the buyer
and seller. Shopping cart is fast, accurate and secure.
Although, for those people that would still prefer to use the quote
system, then that would still be available.
Old Island: Will the business still be on Salt Spring Island?
Dawne: The business will be located on the mainland in Lions
Bay, which is situated between Horseshoe Bay and Squamish on the way
to Whistler.
Old Island: Will you do the Saturday Market?
Dawne: The Saturday Market on Salt Spring will be too far for
us to travel to, but with all the weekend markets in the Lower
Mainland, you'll be sure to see us at a market near you, somewhere!
Old Island: Will you have a studio open to the public?
Dawne: We are so busy with the transition of the business
into our home right now, that there are no plans at this time
to open a studio.
Old Island: Will you have the same artists?
Dawne: I know the big question is whether you will still be
able to buy Emily's images, and yes she will be still be creating and
working for Old Island Stamps!
We have had an unusually long period of time to prepare Dawne to
take over the business, which will continue right through the
Christmas shows. As a result, for our customers it should be a
relatively seamless transition in January. I feel like I am
leaving our customers/stamping friends in very capable hands, and am
looking forward to January (more about that later). However,
right now we are once again intensely focused on the upcoming
Christmas shows. See the link below for discount coupons on
admission.

 | 2007 CHRISTMAS SHOW UPDATE: See the
recently up-dated "Where
to Find Us" page for show dates and websites.
The links to the websites all have coupons to download for savings
on the admission to the shows.
|
 | THE WEBSITE: I
have added six more assorted new Christmas stamps to the Latest
Images page, including a few more new images from
Emily.
We got some good feedback on the Drawing
Board about Bert Small's foxgloves. I also learned
that while they may not be indigenous everywhere, they certainly
seem to grow everywhere in North American. Once again,
whether to develop this image will fall to Dawne (but, of course I
will put in my two cents worth too)! I thought it was about
time for an Emily Hull sketch for the Drawing
Board. This one she calls Christmas Border What
do you think?
Enjoy the Autumn and get going on those Christmas cards!!! - Steve Mueller |
